Simplified FAQ Schema Tagging Guide

Overview

Many websites feature FAQ pages that present common questions and answers for visitors. Tagging these Q&As with schema markup helps search engines understand your content and display it effectively in search results. By simplifying the tagging process for FAQ schema, you save time and improve the readability of your tagged content in the editor. This guide explains how to use the simplified FAQ tagging interface, which is backward-compatible with existing FAQ schema, ensuring a smooth transition for all users.

Part 1: Why Use Simplified FAQ Tagging?

Traditionally, tagging FAQ pages can be time-consuming if you must add multiple fields or repeat entries on every page. With the simplified FAQ tagging UI:

Efficiency: You tag Q&As directly as they appear on the page.

Readability: The editor displays your tagged content in a clearer, more intuitive format.

Compatibility: Existing FAQ schema remain fully operational, and the simplified UI works seamlessly with them.

Ease of Use: New users can quickly learn to add and modify FAQ entries with minimal extra input.

Part 2: Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Access the FAQ Tagging UI

Goal: Quickly start tagging Q&As from your FAQ page.

How: Open the FAQ page in your website’s editor. The simplified FAQ tagging interface will display all Q&As as they appear on the webpage. No need to add extra fields by default.

Step 2: Tagging Q&As

Process:

Simply click on a Q&A on your webpage.

The corresponding Q&A will be highlighted in the editor.

When you click on the highlighted Q&A, it will be automatically tagged as part of the FAQ schema.

Background:
This approach minimizes the steps required, letting you focus on content accuracy rather than technical setup.

Step 3: Adding a New FAQ Entry

How:

If you need to add an additional FAQ entry, click the “Add FAQ” button.

A new Q&A group will be appended to the FAQ schema.

Note:
Adding FAQs in this manner keeps the structure consistent and avoids duplication.

Step 4: Adding Additional Properties

Scenario:
In some cases, you may need to add further details—such as a “Main Entity of Page”—to enrich the FAQ schema.

How:

Click on “Add Property” within the FAQ schema.

Select the desired property from the options.

The new property will appear at the beginning of the FAQ schema.

Background:
This feature allows you to extend the schema without complicating the primary Q&A tagging process.

Step 5: Removing an Existing Q&A Group

How:

To delete a Q&A group you’ve added, simply click the X button (located at the top right of the Q&A group).

Important:
The first Q&A group cannot be deleted since at least one Q&A group is required for a valid FAQ schema.

Step 6: Generating the FAQ Schema

How:

Once all desired Q&As and properties have been tagged, click “Save & Generate.”

Outcome:
This action generates the FAQ schema code, making it ready for publishing. It ensures that all of your tagged Q&As are properly encoded for search engines.

Reminder:
Double-check that you have at least one Q&A group present; otherwise, you will be prompted to add one.
